Kelly Barefield
Boys & Girls Clubs of King County
Kelly Barefield,
age 17, comes from a single-parent family of six. Kelly has been a
member of the Renton/Skyway Club for two years and is president of the
Keystone Club, has assisted the Torch Club with fund-raising and started
a dance club. Kelly is a senior at Renton High School and plans to
attend Western Washington University where she expects to pursue her
degree in Primary Education.

Athena M. Sanders
Boys & Girls of Fairchild Air Force Base
Athena M. Sanders is a Junior at Medical Lake High School. She is the
secretary of the Keystone Club and has held the position for three
years. During that time she has participated in numerous community
activities including food drives, adopt-a-family, Christmas caroling and
currently a warm clothing drive for the homeless shelter in Spokane.
Athena is considering attending the Community Colleges of Spokane or the
Art Institute of Seattle. |

William Anderson
Boys & Girls Club of Spokane County
William Anderson was born in 1989 in Spokane, WA. Bill lives with his
mother Shelley, adopted father Larry, and 2 younger brothers. Bill is a
junior at Shadle Park High School in Spokane and enjoys being at the
Boys & Girls Club when he is not in school or work. Bill is very active
in the state political scene, and has campaigned in Olympia against the
state WASL testing. After high school, Bill intends to enlist in the
Marine Corps, and after his service become a police officer. |

Scottie Bernett
McChord Air Force Base Youth Center
Fourteen year old Scottie Bernett has grown up in an Air Force
family. He has been an active member of the Boys & Girls Club
for the last 12 years, 8 yrs. at McChord AFB and, 4 yrs.
previous to that, at Barksdale AFB. He serves as the President
of the Keystone Club and tutors pre-teens during Power Hour in
the Center. Scottie’s many interests include marine biology,
fishing, and volunteering at the Youth Center. |

Colleen Brown
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound
Since the age of nine, Colleen has demonstrated exemplary leadership and
service in her home and family. At 17 years old, she has an important
role in her family as a reliable daughter, supportive sister and
dependable cousin. This remarkable young lady helps her mother in the
house, cares for her medically-fragile brother and helps with other
family members. Colleen is the Executive Chef in our “Teen Chefs”
program and a role model for the teens at the Club. |

Eva Campos
Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County
Eva Campos is an effervescent senior at La Conner High School. Eva is
involved in a community teen youth group at a local church, teaches pre-schoolers
at a Sunday school, is currently a member of the Sea Scouts, and is
employed at the La Conner Boys & Girls Club. Eva is a positive role
model throughout our community and in the Club, where she reaches out to
youth of all ages. Next fall, Eva plans to major in journalism at
Whitworth Christian College. |

Kaytie Henson
NAS Whidbey Island Youth Center
Kaytie Henson is a 17-year-old junior at Oak Harbor High School on
Whidbey Island. She is a member of the NAS Whidbey Island Boys & Girls
Club and is an active volunteer in both her club and community. Her
passion is Anti-tobacco Awareness. Kaytie’s future plans include making
commercials to help warn youth of the dangers associated with tobacco
use. |

Miles Hartt
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oak Harbor
Miles Hartt, 16 years old, has been a Club Member since 2000 when the
Club was a youth center called Partnership with Youth. Since then, Miles
has been both a Member and Volunteer at the Club in many different
capacities and has seen us through the transition to a Boys and Girls
Club. Miles is on the Media Team of the Boys & Girls Club of Oak Harbor
and holds the position of Vice President. He is an outstanding community
worker and is a model youth. |

Desiree Lehman-Garcia
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin
Desiree is a freshman at Moses Lake High School. She has been a member
of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin for about nine years.
This past year she became Junior Staff and she loves and appreciates the
opportunities it provides her to mentor other club members. After
graduation she plans on attending Eastern Washington University. Her
career goal is to become an E.M.T. / Paramedic. |

Julie Nguyen
Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County
Julie has been a member of the Alderwood Boys & Girls Club for three
years. During that time, she has coached, refereed, and tutored members.
A graduate of Lynnwood High School, her senior year she was Class
President, Student of the Year and Athlete of the Year. A freshman at
Cascadia Community College, Julie plans to transfer to the University of
Washington and major in Pharmacy. |

Matthew Soeby
Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County
Matthew Soeby is a Sophomore at Tumwater High School and has been a
member of the Tumwater Club for two years. Matt is VP of the Keystone
Club, and has created basketball clinics for K- 3rd graders. Matt headed
up a Keystone Club community service project where they served dinner
twice a week for 12 weeks at the local Salvation Army. Matt is a Big
Brother for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America and is a junior staff in
the summer at the Club. |

Torey Wilson
Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County
Torey has been a Club Member of the Ferndale Boys & Girls Club
since the age of six and has participated in the Club’s after
school and athletic programs. He then went on to become a
volunteer, a staff member for the past 3 years, and is currently
a Program Assistant at the Ferndale Branch. Torey is getting a
head start on his college by attending one course per semester
at Bellingham Technical College. |
